Introduction to the Mailchimp integration
The Mailchimp integration is used to collect email addresses for newsletters from Telaris's webshop.
When the integration is configured, a newsletter field is displayed at the bottom of the webshop and a checkbox at checkout.
Email addresses are automatically sent to a selected Mailchimp audience with status subscribed.
This allows the store owner to build an email list without manual export or import of contacts.
Tip: The Mailchimp integration is designed for simple newsletter sign-up from the webshop. The newsletters themselves are created and sent from Mailchimp.
How the integration works
The integration has two sign-up points in the webshop:
A newsletter section at the bottom of the webshop (footer)
A checkbox on the checkout page
Sign-up in footer
There is a newsletter section at the bottom of the webshop.
Visitors can enter their email address and click Subscribe.
No login is required.
The system validates that the email address is valid and then sends it to Mailchimp.
Sign-up at checkout
On the payment page, the customer can tick Subscribe to newsletter.
When the order is confirmed with the checkbox activated, the email address is sent to Mailchimp.
For logged-in customers, the email address is taken from the contact person on the order, or from the main customer card if the contact person lacks an email address.
For guest customers, the email address from the guest information at checkout is used.
Consent and eAccept
When a logged-in customer signs up for the newsletter at checkout, consent is recorded in Telaris.
The consent is stored on the main customer card, not on individual contact persons.
NOTE: Consent is stored on the main customer card, not on individual contact persons.
What is sent to Mailchimp?
The integration only sends the email address to Mailchimp.
No name, address, order data, products or other customer information is sent.
If the email address already exists in the Mailchimp audience, the contact is updated.
If the address was previously unsubscribed, it is set back to subscribed.
Important limitations
The Mailchimp integration is simple and targeted. It only handles newsletter sign-ups.
Important limitations:
Only one Mailchimp audience per webshop is supported
Only the email address is sent to Mailchimp
Products, orders and purchase history are not synchronised
Segments, tags and groups are not handled from Telaris
Unsubscribing is handled via Mailchimp's own unsubscribe links
There is no periodic background synchronisation
The sending of campaigns and newsletters takes place in Mailchimp.
NOTE: The integration does not support Mailchimp e-commerce features such as purchase data, product recommendations or abandoned cart.
